こんにちは！ TULALAの小川健太郎です。10年以上ぶりのメディア連載になります。今回からツララじゃない話を…ということで、このコーナーではなにか釣り人生のヒントになるような日々の戯言をお話ししていこうと思います。

第1回は“目線”のお話
ルアー釣りということで、まずはこちら視点/目線のお話です。釣りで最も必要な着眼点である『溶存酸素量』と双璧を成すのがこの視点/目線ですね。
え？ そんな前提知らない？ じゃあひとまず試しに今までの前提と置き換えてください。『酸素と目線』です。いったん今後の釣りはこれを第一に。酸素はまた今度お話しするかもですが、冷たい水や、泡、植物、影なんかがキーになります。
これからの夏場は特に重要ですね。重要とか思ってても、実際は違うところに投げてしまったりしてると思うので、それを第一にするのです。新しい自分が何かを始めた、くらいのノリです(笑)。
さて、私たち人間って、目線が下のものを探すように身体が出来ていますよね。また、ネコやフクロウと同じように正面に目が並んで両眼のフォーカスを重視して距離を正確に掴んでいます。目の前の物体を正確に指でつまんだり、牙で咥えたりするための目の位置ですね。
このあたりのことを知らなかったとしても、釣りの対象魚とは大きく違う生き方をしているのはご存知のとおりです。多くの対象魚は周りを広く見てますし、やや上の方を見る、感知するのに適した器官として、その位置に目が付いています。
ちょっと変わった姿だと、怪魚だとか色々言われたりしますが、すべての生き物の姿にはそれぞれの進化の理由があるものなのです。
で、この『目』の役割が人間と違ってくるのですが、その詳細を説明しても絶対分かりにくいです。そんなこと書くと読者さんはここで80%脱落します。
擬人化、もしくは人間的に考えたい、というのが人間の性質(Saga)です。でもかなり違うんですよホントに。困った。
そこでまずは、人間である我々が魚になったつもりでモノを捉える練習をしていきましょう。これなら簡単です。魚になったつもりで目線を変えればいいのです。
我々が魚だとしたら、釣具屋さんがアングラーです。買ったら釣られる、もう敗北確定の世界観です。まあいいや。さあ、お店に行ったらルアーを見てみましょう。お！レッドヘッドのルアーがあります。
レッドヘッドのルアー。人が見るとかなりインパクトのある色だが…。
このカラーのインパクト、派手ですよね〜。このとき、手に取ったルアーに対する目線に注目すると…手に取ったルアーが目より下ですね。人間なら誰しも上から下を見下ろす、もしくは正面に向く目線がほとんどになります。
実はこれでは魚の気持ちなんか一生わかりません。散財した後に、あっ！って思うところくらいでしょうか。
一方で魚ならどうでしょう。例えばバスで考えてみると、両目でしっかり認識できる範囲は前方から上までを見てます。下のものを見るときは体を前傾姿勢にしますよね。
バスは前方から上までを見ている。
ルアーを手に取って下に持ってきて観察、とはなりません。そこで我々人間も、魚に近いイメージで捉えるときはルアーを上に掲げて観察してみてください。
下から見上げるように見ると印象がガラリと変わる。
するとどうでしょう！ 天井の光があって、そこにさっきのレッドヘッドのルアーが横切るわけです。なんだかいつもと違う姿のルアーになりませんか？ まず、魚たちの多くはこれを見せられている、と言うことになるのです。
この方法でルアーを眺めると、今まで派手だと思っていた明るい色は目立ちにくく、逆に地味だと思っていた黒っぽいものが目立ったりします。
一般的に魚の背中の色は暗色で、お腹は明色です。その理由をこの目線で考えると、上から見た背中は地面や水の色に近い、お腹は空に溶け込みやすい、そして側面はピカピカ反射、つまりオール保護色ですね。
ブラックバスの体色は背中が水や地面に近い暗色、お腹は白や肌色に近い明色となっている。
下からの視線を取り入れるだけで、全く違う世界に居るような…そうです。色の概念を一旦、人間の常識と入れ替えてしまってもいいのです。むしろパールホワイトが目立つとか、そういう記憶や気持ちを一旦全部忘れてほしいくらいです。こういった感覚から見た魚の世界、めちゃくちゃ面白いと思いませんか？

Learn to look up from below, not from above, and improve your fishing skills! (English Ver.)
Hello! This is Ogawa Kentaro from TULALA. This is my first media column in over 10 years. From now on, I’ll be talking about things that aren’t TULALA… so in this corner, I’ll be sharing some of my daily ramblings that might give you some hints for your fishing life.

“Part 1: The Story of ‘Perspective'”
The first part, talking about line of sight.
Since we’re talking about lure fishing, let’s start with this. It’s about line of sight. This viewpoint/line of sight is on par with the most important aspect of fishing, the “amount of dissolved oxygen.” Wait, you’ve never heard of this? No worries! Well, for now, try replacing it with the premise you’ve learned so far. It’s “oxygen and line of sight.” For now, make this your number one priority when fishing. I may talk about oxygen another time, but cold water, bubbles, plants, and shadows are the keys. It’s especially important in the coming summer. Even if you think it’s important, you may actually be casting your line in the wrong place, so make it your number one priority. It’s like discovering a whole new side of yourself! (laughs).
Now, we humans are made in such a way that our eyes are directed downwards to seek out things below us. Also, like cats and owls, our eyes are lined up in front of us and we use both eyes to focus accurately to gauge distance. Our eyes are positioned to help us accurately grab objects with our fingers or, in the case of predators, with our teeth.
Even if you didn’t know this, you know that we live very differently from the fish we fish for. Many fish look around widely, and their eyes are positioned in a way that is suitable for seeing and sensing slightly above. If they have a slightly unusual appearance, they may be called a monstrous fish or something, but the appearance of every living thing has its own evolutionary reason.
The role of these “eyes” is different from that of humans, but even if I explain the details, it will be difficult to understand. If I write something like that, 80% of the readers will drop out at this point. It is human nature to want to anthropomorphize, or think human-like. But it’s quite different, really. Here’s the thing though – let me show you a simple way to start thinking like a fish.
This is easy. All we have to do is change our line of sight and pretend to be a fish.
If we were fish, the tackle shop clerk becomes the angler. If you buy something, you’ll get caught, so it’s a world where defeat is certain. Oh well.So, when you go to the shop, take a look at the lures. Oh! There’s a RED-HEAD lure.
A redhead lure really makes an impression on people with its color.
This color makes a big impact, doesn’t it? If you pay attention to the way you look at the lure you picked up…the lure you picked up is below your eyes. Most humans look down from above or straight ahead. In fact, if you do this, you’ll never understand what a fish is thinking. The only time you might get it is that ‘Ah!!’ moment after you’ve spent way too much money.
But what about fish? Take Bass, for example, the range that they can clearly recognize with both eyes is from the front to the top.
Bass look from directly in front of them up to the surface.
When you look at something below, you lean your body forward. You don’t pick up the lure and bring it down to observe it.
Looking at it from below, as if gazing up, completely changes its impression.
So here’s what we need to do: hold that lure up high and observe it from below. And guess what! There is a light on the ceiling, and the RED-HEAD lure from before passes by. Doesn’t the lure look a little different than usual? First of all, this is what most fish are being shown.
When you hold it, this is the impression you get: The pearl white body with the bright red redhead is quite flashy. [写真タップで拡大]
When you view the same lure from below, as if looking up, the impression changes. Its outline blurs, and the flashiness of the red head is diminished. [写真タップで拡大]
When you look at lures in this way, bright colors that you previously thought were flashy are less noticeable, and conversely, black ones that you previously thought were dull stand out.
Black bass have a body coloration where their backs are dark, similar to water or the ground, while their bellies are light, resembling white or a skin tone.
Generally, fish have dark backs and light bellies. If you think about the reason for this from this perspective, their backs seen from above are close to the color of the ground or water, their bellies blend in easily with the sky, and their sides are shiny and reflective, in other words, all protective colors.
Just by looking from below, it seems like you are in a completely different world… that’s right. It’s okay to temporarily replace the concept of color with human common sense. In fact, I would like you to forget all such memories and feelings, such as the fact that pearl white colored lures stand out. Don’t you think the world of fish seen from this perspective is incredibly interesting?
